LEADING BY EXAMPLE SGPA's approach to sustainability begins in our own backyard, as our San Diego office became the first design firm in San Diego County to attain Green certification from San Diego Area's Green Business Program in March of 2008. The firm is a proud member of the U.S. Green Building Council, and provides financial and continuing education support to employees pursuing their LEED AP credential.
STRATEGY SGPA seeks out opportunities to implement sustainable design strategies in all of our project types, whether it be affordable senior housing or an international airport terminal. Working with our clients, our project teams are encouraged to keep an eye out for workable "green" solutions. From specifying recycled content materials to pushing beyond regulatory requirements, we look for local chances to make a global difference. Design Assistant Pamela Florance, LEED AP (BArch CalPolySLO '06), who designed her thesis project to achieve LEED Gold criteria, is encouraged to see that sustainable design is becoming mainstream. "It's good to see increasing market demand for green design, which after all, is basically just good design."
PHILOSOPHY Turning skepticism into optimism, SGPA uses the concept that "no single raindrop believes it is to blame for the flood" as a call to arms for the cause of environmental stewardship. We recognize that each of us does have an environmental impact, and strive to make ours a positive one. |
