This modern multi-use facility offers community medical care and affordable family apartments to residents of Oakland’s Fruitvale District. Sponsored jointly by Native American Health Center and East Bay Asian Development Corp., the facility strives to improve the health and well-being of all its neighbors, regardless of tribal and ethnic affiliation.

Located on International Boulevard, Seven Directions has convenient access to retail, services, and public transit. The health clinic occupies the first two floors, with apartments on the upper three floors. A ground-floor courtyard includes an earthen ceremonial space, stone waterwall, and indigenous plants. The stone waterwall allows for peaceful reflection and includes live plants that thrive on the self-recycling water flow.

The Seven Directions clinic provides outpatient primary care, mental health, dental health, and nutrition counseling for Oakland residents. Designed in collaboration with community members and artists, the clinic’s interior and exterior design evoke traditional Native American building and art motifs.

Each residential unit has private outdoor space overlooking common areas. Residents share a spacious community room that is also available to local community groups. Amenities include laundry facilities, garage parking, and landscaped courtyards.

The facility’s holistic outlook is reflected in its name, which refers to the Native American tradition of seven sacred directions that encompass our human experience: north, south, east, west, above, below, and within.
