New entertainment district at a major retail center

This major expansion of the Pacific Commons power center is a shopping and entertainment sub-district with a lifestyle center atmosphere. Anchored by Target and a 16-screen Century Theatres multiplex, The Block features a downtown-style promenade lined with shops, restaurants, and eateries.

Since 1995, SGPA has been working with Catellus and the City of Fremont to develop the 106-acre retail portion of the 840-acre Pacific Commons site. The Block is the newest of five distinctive planning areas that comprise Northern California’s largest power center.

Our team paid special attention to streetscape design to enhance the pedestrian experience. Angled parking at each side of the street adds retail parking capacity with easy access. Varied building facade designs animate and add architectural interest for tenants. Modernized forms complement existing Pacific Commons architecture styles, but reflect current trends. Sustainable elements

The City of Fremont has encouraged the growth of electric vehicle technology by requiring The Block to include 50 EV parking spaces with the ability to charge 25 cars at once. This will position the development and the City among the first locations in the East Bay area to support the EV movement. Read more about retailers and EV charging on our blog.
