Located in a dense and lively neighborhood, Uptown District was San Diego’s first successful transformation of abandoned commercial property into the focal point of an established neighborhood.

The success of this pedestrian-focused center, which includes plazas, courtyards, and an urban park, led San Diego to apply the “City of Villages” concept to its urban renewal campaign. SGPA was responsible for the master planning and design of this 14-acre commercial and residential “urban village,” including 120,000 square feet of retail over structured parking. This project was completed under budget and displayed sensitivity to the community’s needs and aesthetic preferences.

Uptown District has continued to adapt to its community, changing and modernizing with trends and needs. Today, it features two grocery stores, two yoga studios, many restaurants and dining options, banks, a medical office, coffee shops, clothing and beauty supply stores, and convenience shops, among others.
